Guns

Libertarians support peoples’ right to keep and bear arms. Gun control advocates want to prohibit gun ownership to as many people as possible, on the grounds that they might commit a violent crime sometime in the future. We totally disagree with that way of thinking.

​Guns, knives, baseball bats, fists, medications, and many other things are dangerous. People can use them to hurt other people. They can also be used in positive and useful ways. It is wrong to prohibit people from owning things because it’s possible to misuse them.

In Texas, people have the right to own rifles and handguns, but Texas law requires a license to carry a handgun in public, whether openly or concealed. The Texas permit requires taking an expensive, time-consuming course, which is an infringement on your Second Amendment rights. Fifteen states allow concealed carry of handguns without a permit.
